About Fred Vitale

My name is Fred Vitale. I'm 55 years old, been a resident of Detroit for 30 years and have worked in the auto industry over 30 years. My daughter Anna graduated from Detroit schools.

As a longtime Detroit resident, I watched the Democratic Party become more and more like the Republican Party. They agree on many issues. The Democratic and Republican parties cut people off from social services and welfare; the Democratic and Republican parties support cutting off water and heat to poor people; and, both parties support this unjust and wasteful war. That's why I joined the Green Party in 2002.

I have been a member of the United Auto Workers union. I campaigned for Maureen Taylor, chair, Michigan Welfare Rights Organization, for Detroit City Council.

The single biggest issue facing Detroit is the loss of good-paying jobs. Poverty, crime and child abuse all have increased as unemployment increased. I support a program to immediately provide everyone who wants to work a job at a living wage with full benefits.

I have actively opposed the wasteful war in Iraq. Michigan's portion of the cost of the war has been $8 billion. That is more than enough money to eliminate the City of Detroit's debt and the Detroit School System's debt, pay to keep the water and heat on for Detroiters and fund a program to provide jobs.

The majority of people, especially Detroiters, oppose the war. Send a message to Washington and Lansing this November. Stop this war, bring our troops home now, including the Michigan National Guard, and spend the money here in Detroit where we need it.

Vote for Fred Vitale, State Representative, Green Party, November 7.
